Sustainability is at the core of everything we do and circular fashion is central to our mission. By embracing circular fashion, we aim to reduce our footprint on our planet, minimise waste, and contribute to a more sustainable future for the fashion industry.

What is Circular Fashion?

Circular fashion is focused on creating a system where resources are kept in use for as long as possible. This involves designing products with longevity in mind and ensuring that materials are reused or recycled at the end of their life. Circular fashion is about shifting away from the traditional "take, make, dispose" model towards a closed-loop system where garments are designed for longevity, reuse and eventual recycling or biodegradation. It promotes the idea that clothing should remain in circulation for as long as possible, either through repair, repurposing, or recycling, before returning to the earth in an eco-friendly way.

How Twill & Tee Incorporates Circularity

At Twill & Tee, we incorporate the principles of circularity throughout our design and production process. Here’s how we integrate circular fashion into our brand:

  1. Biodegradable, Natural Fibres: We predominantly use biodegradable natural fibres such as cotton, linen, silk and wool, which decompose much faster than synthetic materials, unlike polyester, which can take centuries to break down. Our fabrics are designed to return to nature without leaving harmful microplastics behind.
  2. Timeless, Durable Design: Our design philosophy is grounded in quality over quantity. By creating timeless staples that are well-crafted and versatile, we aim to produce garments that will last for years. This reduces the need for frequent replacements, helping to curb the cycle of fast fashion.
  3. Education on Garment Care and Repair: Circularity isn’t just about how garments are made; it’s also about how they’re cared for. We offer resources and advice to our customers on how to care for and repair their Twill & Tee garments, extending their lifespan and keeping them in circulation for longer. From mending to refreshing fabrics, these small steps make a big difference in reducing textile waste.
  4. Small-Scale, Ethical Production: Working closely with local Australian manufacturers, we produce limited quantities of clothing to avoid overproduction and excess stock that contribute to fashion waste. We offer a made-to-order option enabling us to product only what we need. This careful approach to production ensures we maintain high ethical standards while reducing environmental impact.
  5. End-of-Life Solutions: At Twill & Tee, we encourage responsible disposal of garments once they have reached the end of their lifecycle. Additionally, we support recycling initiatives, urging our customers to donate, repurpose, or compost their clothing when possible.
  6. Seamless Australia Member: By contributing 4 cents for every garment we produce, to the Seamless Australia stewardship program we recognise that we are responsible for the entire life of the garments we produce. These efforts help create a system where clothes are designed for longevity, reused in various forms, and ultimately recycled, reducing the environmental impact of the fashion industry.

As a brand, our commitment to circularity is about more than just reducing waste—it’s about fostering a culture of responsibility, care, and mindfulness. By investing in a Twill & Tee garment, you're not only choosing timeless style but also contributing to a more sustainable and ethical fashion industry.

We are continually improving and learning how to reduce our environmental footprint while supporting local, ethical fashion production. Sustainable fashion is not just a trend; it’s the way forward.
